What “pure white” means
Amazon describes a pure white background as RGB 255,255,255. A background can look white to a person while still containing warm gray, blue cast, shadows, gradients, or an off-white studio sweep.
- Inspect the corners and outer border.
- Look for shadows that reach the frame edge.
- Do not assume a white website page means the image pixels are white.
How the OpenFileTools estimate works
The browser creates a small temporary canvas, samples pixels around the outer border, and calculates how many are close to neutral white. It reports Appears white, Mostly white, or Background does not appear white.

- The tolerance allows small compression variation.
- The result is an estimate, not a segmentation model.
Why border sampling has limits
A white border can surround a noncompliant interior, and a compliant reflective product may create edge detail that reduces the score. Always inspect the full image and current marketplace guidance.

- Confirm shadows and props are appropriate.
- Use the original product cutout when possible.
