Use GIF for short loops
GIF works well for brief UI demonstrations and simple loops, not long full-color video. A few seconds usually produces a more practical file.
Frame rate and width dominate size
Reducing width and frames per second cuts both processing work and output bytes. More frames are not useful when the destination displays a small animation.
Palette size is a real tradeoff
GIF stores indexed colors. Lower palette sizes can reduce bytes but may cause banding in gradients and photos.
Prefer modern video when possible
If the destination accepts MP4 or WebM, those formats generally preserve photographic motion at far smaller sizes than GIF.
