WAV is often much larger
Typical WAV stores uncompressed PCM, so MP3 can reduce size substantially for delivery and sharing.
Bitrate controls the tradeoff
Lower bitrate saves space but removes more information. Use listening tests for important music rather than relying only on numbers.
Do not delete the master
WAV is useful for editing because it avoids another lossy decode/encode generation.
Metadata may need review
WAV and MP3 support metadata differently; inspect title/artist tags after conversion when library organization matters.
