Printed numbers and PDF page indexes can differ
A cover can be PDF page one while the visible numbering begins later. Choose the intended pages and starting value rather than assuming every page should show its internal index.
Choose a position that survives mixed layouts
Top and bottom positions are calculated from each page boundary. Use a consistent margin, then preview portrait, landscape, and rotated pages before download.
- Keep numbers away from trim and printer edges.
- Use short prefixes and suffixes.
- Check existing headers and footers for collisions.
Page-number overlays do not require rasterization
Text can be added as PDF content while existing page text, vectors, and images remain in their original form. Editing may still invalidate digital signatures.
