Start with page geometry and consistency
Confirm the intended page size, orientation, and rotation before looking at finer print details. Mixed page sizes may be intentional, but an unexpected outlier can cause scaling, trimming, or imposition problems later.
- Compare every page with the intended finished size.
- Check rotated pages and landscape inserts deliberately.
- Use the page-size checker when you need exact dimensions in points, inches, or millimeters.
Review raster-image resolution at the size it is used
A PDF can contain several images with different effective DPI values. Inspect each supported placement and pay special attention to low-resolution images that occupy a large physical area. Vector text and artwork do not have one fixed DPI.
Check font embedding evidence
Missing or uncertain font embedding can create substitution risk in some downstream workflows. Review the fonts used, subset names, and parser-exposed embedding evidence. Unknown evidence is not automatically a failure, but it is a reason to use a dedicated preflight tool for important print jobs.
A browser print checker is not a full press preflight
OpenFileTools deliberately does not claim to certify PDF/X conformance, bleed and trim correctness, overprint behavior, spot colors, output intents, rich-black recipes, ink coverage, trapping, transparency-flattening requirements, or a printer's proprietary acceptance profile.
- Ask the printer for its PDF specification or job-options profile.
- Proof important color and trim-sensitive work.
- Keep the original editable source until production is accepted.
Use the report as a practical preflight checklist
Resolve clear structural problems first, then send the final PDF through the production provider's authoritative preflight process. The goal of a browser check is to surface useful evidence early—not to replace the printer's final decision.
