How to Create a Planned vs Actual Monthly Budget

Compare planned and actual income and expenses with deterministic remainders and variance using values you enter.

What this template is for

A monthly budget worksheet compares expectations with recorded results. Add each income source and expense category separately, entering planned and actual amounts in one selected display currency.

Fields and calculations that matter

Planned remainder equals planned income minus planned expenses. Actual remainder uses actual values, and variance compares the two remainders. Negative values remain visible rather than being relabeled as success.

Customize and review the preview

Complete the fields locally, add or reorder repeatable rows where available, choose A4 or Letter and the intended orientation, then inspect wrapping, totals, and physical geometry in the live preview.

Important limitations

The worksheet does not connect to banks, infer income, recommend investments, calculate tax, or promise financial outcomes. It is organizational information rather than financial advice.
