How to Create a Clear Professional Resume

Organize contact information, summary, experience, education, skills, certifications, projects, layouts, and PDF review.

What this document is for

A resume should make relevant factual experience easy to scan. Start with accurate contact details and a focused headline or summary, then prioritize recent or relevant work, education, skills, certifications, and projects.

Fields and decisions that matter

Use repeatable entries and move stronger evidence earlier. Describe outcomes truthfully with specific context rather than invented metrics. Choose Classic for a conventional single flow or Sidebar for stronger visual separation, then test both A4 and Letter if recipients differ.

Customize and review the live preview

Open the related template, complete required fields, add or remove repeatable rows where available, and reorder entries when sequence matters. Choose A4 or US Letter, orientation, typography, spacing, accent color, and a restrained style. The preview updates from current tab state and renders user content as text rather than HTML.

  • Check names, dates, references, quantities, and totals.
  • Remove empty optional content instead of leaving unexplained placeholders.
  • Review long text and tables for page breaks before saving.

Important limitations

No template can guarantee applicant-tracking-system parsing, interviews, or hiring. Complex columns may parse differently across systems, so keep a plain source copy and inspect the exported PDF's selectable text and reading order.

Save a reviewed PDF privately

Choose Print / Save PDF, select the browser's PDF destination, confirm paper size and orientation, and inspect the saved file before sharing it. Browser pagination and printer scaling can vary. OpenFileTools does not upload, persist, or add document contents to a URL, and closing the tab clears the working state.
