Peak normalization is simple and measurable
The tool finds the highest absolute sample and applies one gain factor so that peak reaches the chosen dBFS target.
It is not LUFS mastering
Perceived loudness depends on frequency, dynamics and time. True loudness normalization requires a standards-based loudness measurement; this tool does not mislabel peak normalization as LUFS.
Clipping is avoided by the target
A target below 0 dBFS leaves headroom. The calculated gain is bounded so samples are not intentionally driven past full scale.
Listen after gain changes
Raising a quiet file also raises background noise. Technical normalization does not repair a noisy recording.
