Portfolio Analysis Workbook: Professional Setup & Daily-Use Guide

Track holdings, cost basis, allocation, gains, dividend income and concentration with user-entered market data and editable Excel/CSV exports.

Keep market data honest

OpenFileTools does not invent live prices. Enter the latest prices you trust, or import them into the downloaded workbook from a data source you are licensed to use.

  • Record the date of your price update in your own notes.
  • Use consistent tickers and asset classes.
  • Treat outputs as analysis, not investment advice.

Read allocation and concentration together

A portfolio can look diversified by number of holdings while remaining concentrated by market value. Position value and sector allocation help reveal that difference.

Use cost basis for decision context

Unrealized gains and losses are calculated from shares, average cost and current price. Tax cost basis can be more complex than a simple average, so use broker records for tax reporting.

Export for deeper analysis

The XLSX workbook remains editable and the CSV package separates holdings and transaction data, making it suitable for Power BI, Python, accounting or broker-reconciliation workflows.
