Zoom readiness starts with the longest side
Amazon guidance describes at least 1,000 pixels on the longest side for zoom readiness. OpenFileTools uses 1,600 pixels as a stronger proportional working target because it gives shoppers more useful viewing detail when the source is genuinely sharp.
- A 1,600 × 900 landscape image reaches the working target.
- The image does not need to be square.
- Category-specific content rules still apply.
Pixel dimensions and real detail are different
A small or blurry photograph can be enlarged to more pixels, but interpolation cannot reconstruct texture, focus, or product detail that was never captured. Start with the original camera file rather than a marketplace screenshot or previously compressed copy.
- Judge focus at 100% view.
- Use diffuse light and a stable camera.
- Retake the photograph when product detail is genuinely missing.
A practical export workflow
Select the 1,600 px longest-side preset, keep proportions, and leave enlargement off unless a dimensional requirement matters more than sharpness. Review the actual output and the separate Amazon readiness checks before download.
