Minimum size versus recommended quality
eBay’s picture policy requires at least 500 pixels on the longest side. Its photo guidance recommends larger images around 1,600 by 1,600 for clearer viewing.
- A 900 px image can meet the minimum without reaching the preferred quality target.
- Do not enlarge a small source and assume it has become sharper.
- Keep each image within the documented 12 MB upload limit.
Avoid prohibited additions
eBay’s policy restricts borders, watermarks, added text, artwork, and marketing material. The image should accurately represent the item being sold.
- Show the actual item condition.
- Do not hide damage or defects.
- Avoid stock photos for used, damaged, or defective items.
Build a useful photo set
A strong listing uses multiple clear angles rather than asking one image to do every job. Include close-ups of condition details and context that reduces buyer uncertainty.
- Use a stable camera and diffuse lighting.
- Show flaws clearly.
- Keep backgrounds uncluttered and neutral.
