Minimum and quality targets serve different purposes

eBay requires at least 500 pixels on the longest side. OpenFileTools uses 1,600 pixels on the longest side as a practical quality target, which means a proportional 1,600 × 900 image can reach the target without becoming square.

• Below 500 px fails the minimum check.
• Between 500 and 1,599 px can pass the minimum while remaining below the working target.

File bytes are a separate limit

eBay's main help documentation describes a 12 MB maximum per image. A high-resolution photograph can exceed a byte limit even when its dimensions are acceptable, so compression and resizing solve different problems.

• Resize when dimensions are excessive.
• Compress when bytes are excessive.
• Check the measured result before upload.

Technical readiness does not validate the listing

Photographs should accurately show the item and its condition. Avoid added borders, marketing text, artwork, and watermarks, and use real photos for used, damaged, or defective items.
